You may have recently noticed a larger number of new BMWs driving around Silver Spring. However, Silver Spring isn't the only place where more and more people are adopting the luxury auto brand. In fact, drivers throughout the world are finding a place in their heart for the Bavarian luxury brand. In an effort to fully supply consumers need for speed, quick handling and agile appearance, the luxury automaker produced more than 70% more BMW cars than were produced in 2010. This marks the largest production year BMW has ever accomplished.
As the luxury automaker continues this positive trend in 2012, BMW is evaluating opportunities in which they can increase production even further. The luxury automaker has decided to invest $900 million into a BMW production factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Through this investment 300 new jobs will be created at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.
This growth trails on the heels of four comparable growth initiatives made 1994, when the facility first opened to 2011. Like the cars the Spartanburg factory produces, the plant is state of the art. Since 2006, the South Carolina BMW factory has successfully reduced energy consumption by nearly 50% and waste/car by 65%.
The $900 million BMW plans on investing will be invested into the eco-conscious plant through 2012 - 2014. However, the 300 new positions will be filled by the year's end.
