BMW ConnectedDrive
The state-of-the-art ConnectedDrive system has even more innovative features to keep you connected, wherever you go. New features include Mobile Office, which can display smartphone emails and text messages on the iDrive screen when stationary and reads them to you while driving so you'll never have to take your eyes off the road. Enhanced digital music functions allows you to view album titles, artwork and even wirelessly stream music from your Bluetooth compatible phone or MP3 player through the audio system.
Rear Seat Entertainment
The 5 Series includes the option of a dual multimedia, high-resolution entertainment system. The vibration-resistant displays provide both rear passengers with the comfort of their own screen.
The Premium Sound
The 5 Series doesn't just play music. It offers an immersive 16-speaker premium surround system with nine-channel amplifier and 600 watts of power. The result? Dynamic sound throughout the cabin. When it comes to what passengers listen to through this system, the possibilities are limitless. The optional multimedia adaptor plugs into iPhones, iPods, and other MP3 for stereo playback. Skip tracks, access up to five playlists, store music on the optional hard drive, and adjust the volume through the 5 Series' steering wheel controls or optional iDrive controller. Over 1,300 nationwide AM and FM stations with HD Radio technology, while over 600 stations also include multicasting options, displaying the artist and track names of songs as they play. In addition, the new flagship also allows for optional SIRIUS Satellite radio, which offers 60 commercial-free music stations and more than 40 news, sports and entertainment stations. The first year subscription is included.
Parking Assistant
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you always have to do it yourself. The BMW Parking Assistant searches for a parking space, and does the parking for you at the drop of a command. Ultrasonic sensors in the side indicators search for availability when traveling at speeds of up to 22 mph. Blue arrows indicate if parking is available on the left or right side of the road, while also taking care of steering as you select the correct gear and control the accelerator and brake.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is usually driven using engine power, which requires fuel. With Brake Energy Regeneration, the generator produces electricity when the driver brakes or takes a foot off the accelerator. Kinetic energy that was previously unharnessed is transformed into electrical energy, then fed into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated without consuming fuel.
