Moving Toward an Electric Future with BMW M Vehicles
One of the most highly anticipated BMW debuts at Monterey Car Week 2026 was the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse. This was the concept car’s first North American appearance after an earlier world premiere at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The fully electric concept offers an early look at how Neue Klasse technology could shape future BMW M models.
The engineering concept includes four electric motors along with M-specific programming for the BMW Heart of Joy vehicle-control system. BMW is using this model to explore how electrification can support the responsive handling and driving dynamics expected from an M model. Monterey also was the North American debut of the Vision BMW ALPINA. This one-of-a-kind design study boasts a sleek coupe shape with an interior featuring full-grain leather, metal detailing, crystal controls, and other carefully crafted elements.
Four Decades of the BMW M3
BMW balanced those futuristic concepts with a celebration of the 40-year history of the BMW M3. Each of this model’s six generations was on display at the Legends of the Autobahn®, while four generations of BMW M3 race cars took to the WeatherTech® Raceway Laguna Seca during the Rolex® Monterey Motorsports Reunion. The exciting new limited-edition 2027 BMW M3 CS Handschalter pairs a 473-horsepower M TwinPower Turbo™ inline six-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
