One of the first things to do when you buy a new BMW EV is learn how to charge it properly. With both Level 1 and Level 2 charging available at home, it helps to know your charging options and the proper procedure. BMW of Fort Washington has all the information you need about home charging.

Plugging Your Vehicle In

Ensure that your BMW EV is turned off and the charging port lid is open. (You unlock this lid with the key fob, then gently push it to open.) Then, plug your cable into the charger and ensure that it fits snugly. You should then notice a green light on your charging cable box. If you do, you can then remove the charger cover on your car and plug the other end of the cable in. The port should display a blue flashing light, indicating that the vehicle is charging.

Activating Level 1 Charging

Level 1 charging is the slowest charging option, but it’s also the most convenient since you can use any standard 120V outlet anywhere you find one. In essence, it’s no different than plugging in and charging any device in your home. With this charging standard, you can expect to charge up to four miles per hour — making this perfect for recharging after a quick drive.

Activating Level 2 Charging

To activate Level 2 charging, you need a 240V AC home charger professionally installed with a referral from your BMW dealership near Philadelphia. With this charger, you can charge up to 30 miles per hour. This lets you achieve the same charging speeds you can expect at a standard public charger.
