Having your BMW car or SUV carefully inspected is an important part of your BMW service. You want to ensure your vehicle is reliable, but also spot potential issues before they snowball into major (and costly) repairs. We’re outlining the BMW inspection process at BMW of Silver Spring.

BMW Inspection I

Think of your BMW Inspection I as an annual check-up for your vehicle. This inspection includes a thorough inspection of your vehicle, as well as a road test. It includes three different categories: undercarriage, engine compartment, and body/electrical components.

  • Undercarriage – engine oil and filter change, brake inspection, tire inspection, check for leaks
  • Engine – fluid level check, computer system check with a diagnostic tool
  • Body/electrical – ensure lights, door locks, air bags, and battery are functioning, check door hinges, rearview mirrors, and seat belts

BMW Inspection II

Your BMW Inspection II includes all of the components of Inspection II, as well as a few additional service tasks.

  • Spark plug and air filter replacement
  • Parking brake lining inspection
  • Check flexible boots for leaks
  • Exterior inspection for rust

Inspection Schedule

There are a lot of factors that go into your vehicle’s recommended inspection schedule, including its age. Newer vehicles should give you a service indicator on your dash. However, it’s still a good idea to keep these intervals in mind for your schedule.

We recommend that you schedule BMW Inspection I at least once a year. Then, you’ll want to keep these additional recommendations in mind when scheduling BMW Inspection II.

  • Vehicles 1999 and newer – every 60,000 miles
  • Vehicles 1992 to 1998 – every 40,000 miles
  • Vehicles 1991 and older – every 30,000 miles
