If you want to see some unbelievably avant-garde automobile designs, check out the BMW brand’s latest concept vehicles. As a long-tenured BMW dealer in Maryland, BMW of Silver Spring has seen plenty of boundary-pushing BMW vehicles in its day, but this latest cache might take first prize for creativity. And as technology, design, and materials continue to evolve at a record pace within the BMW brand’s hallowed halls, chances are we’ll say the same thing about the next iteration of concept vehicles.
For now, let’s appreciate the current batch, which includes the BMW 328 Homage, a vehicle that must be seen to be believed – and for that matter, described. But we’ll do our best. For one, this car is incredibly lightweight for its footprint – only 1,700 pounds, a feat that BMW of North America chalks up to significant use of next-gen materials like carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. One of the BMW 328 Homage model’s most prominent (and coolest) design elements is its vintage BMW kidney grille, a shout-out to BMW sports cars of yore. And we must mention this concept car’s light-alloy wheels, which embrace a futuristic, perforated design that maximizes performance at any speed.
Another mind-blowing BMW concept car is GINA, which is currently on display at the BMW Museum in Munich, Germany. GINA is an acronym for “Geometry and function In “N” (infinite) Adaptations”, and that aptly summarizes the GINA model’s approach to the future of car design and driving. Many of the GINA model’s design elements are humanistic in nature, giving it more personality than any car since K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. Oh, and GINA has fabric skin. Yes, fabric skin.
