One of the most amazing things about the upcoming 2014 BMW i3 all-electric hatchback is how light it is. Electric-powered vehicles need to try to be as light as possible in order to deliver good performance and have a good range from a single charge. When BMW was designing the i3 they decided that there was no type of metal that was going to be light or sturdy enough to form the passenger compartment. So they turned to carbon fiber.

This amazing material is being found in more and more cars about the industry, but BMW will be one of the first to use it on such a large scale. Watch this video and see the lifecycle of carbon fiber from how it's made to how it is built into every new i3 model.

Pretty amazing isn't it? We certainly think so, and that is why we are counting down the days until the 2014 BMW i3 joins our new BMW inventory next month. We suspect that there will be a lot of interest right away, so we suggest stopping into BMW of Silver Spring ahead of time to get all the information and even make a pre-order.
