We feel as though the best is yet to come from our favorite German automaker as we recently heard that BMW struck a deal with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to collaborate on the development of several new technologies that will revolutionize the industry.
We are excited to be the first ones to tell you here on our blog exactly what this new partnership entails, and what kinds of great new products we can expect this unlikely duo to produce. The list of goals is as follows:
- The creation of a production-ready fuel cell system: the technology exists to produce new BMW vehicles with hydrogen fuel cell engines, it just needs to be refined so they can be made on a large scale.
- Research into new lightweight materials: both companies have visions of a new lightweight composite material to improve the performance of sports models like the BMW M5 and the 7 Series.
- Combining engineering and design to develop a new sports car: with both carmakers' industry know how, we expect to see one of the best designed sports cars in the world.
- Starting the evolution of the battery: as more electric vehicles begin to seep into the lineups of more and more automakers, the Battery technology needs to evolve as well. Developing a lithium-air battery that can hold larger amounts of energy would do much to push models like the ActiveHybrid 7 forward.
