In 2008 BMW created an entirely new segment of consumer vehicles with the introduction of the BMW X6. This coupe crossover was a unique vehicle that bridged the gap between sports car and sport utility vehicle. Now it has recently been announced that the X6 is going in for a makeover and we have been given a few hints of what to expect in model years to come.
The new BMW X6 is to go on sale to the public in the 2015 model year. It will sit on the same platform as the BMW X5, but will have an expanded cabin, built to add more legroom and cargo space. The outside shouldn't change much except for a few key details that will hopefully give this small crossover a more aggressive stance. Officials at BMW spoke about the new X6 with Autocar magazine, and explained, "We want to give our sporting models a more individual look, further separating them visually from the more practical models in our line-up."1
We anticipate that drivers interested in this model will have the option of both a six-cylinder or a supercharged V8 engine. There is even the possibility of the introduction of a hybrid variant, but we will just have to wait and see about that.
The 2015 model year is still a good ways away. In the meantime, see what you can do about stopping by the BMW of Silver Spring showroom to check out the current lineup of used and new BMW vehicles.
