Those near Silver Spring, Maryland who drive a new BMW vehicle are likely familiar with the automaker's innovative BMW ConnectedDrive Apps. BMW of Silver Spring also knows that anyone who fits these criteria and happens to own the new iPhone 5 might be panicking.
Why? For those aren't familiar, all apps are connected to BMW vehicles via Apple's smartphone. Until now, the BMW-compatible iPhone used a standard 30-pin connector which is exactly what the BMW infotainment system offers. However, the folks over at Apple decided to switch things up and created the latest iPhone installment to use a different "Lightning" connector.
As you can guess, this left many iPhone 5-owning BMW drivers wondering whether they'd still have in-vehicle access to all the social media venues, newscasts, music and more that they had before.
The answer to their fears? The handy-dandy Lightning to 30-pin Adapter. Using this adapter, "the iPhone 5 is fully functional with BMW Apps including graphics displayed while using the iPod function for music media and graphics display perfectly for Pandora, Facebook, and Twitter."1
At this point in time the only problem left to solve would be for BMW to create a new snap-in adapter that's compatible with the iPhone 5 in and of itself. Of course, you can rest assured the motivated automaker already has a team on the job. What's more, company officials hint that they're working on a new Android application that will be ready come next summer as well.
