A lot of heads were turned during the recent BMW ActiveHybrid 3's North American unveiling in Detroit. BMW of Silver Spring serving Silver Spring didn't expect anything else. The vehicle's fall launch is quickly approaching, and the hybridization of such a popular model has seemed to overshadow several additional impressive technological improvements the car has experienced. One advancement being the navigation system.
The new system does more than just guide the driver through an unknown city or to a new destination. The new navigation system featured in the forthcoming ActiveHybrid 3 will be the first in its segment to tell drivers when the best time to use and recharge the car's battery. This advancement gives drivers the ability to be as energy efficient as they can!
How does the system register this information?
This sophisticated technology takes into consideration the altitude and distance from- and location of final destination as well as several other real-time factors. For example, pretend you are driving the ActiveHybrid 3 up a steep hill. The car will feel the decline going down the hill. If given a good opportunity for recharging, it will then use more power on the way up.
Basically, it's a hybrid-specific navigation system intended to advance efficiency, performance and driver convenience. The new system will come standard on the forthcoming BMW ActiveHybrid 3, which is scheduled to come out this coming fall. And, word has it, all other current and future hybrid models will adopt it too, (i.e., the 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 - out now).
