A lot can happen in a year. Boy, don't we know it. As proud purveyors of Bavarian luxury car brand, BMW, we find ourselves more and more wowed with each and every passing year. Every 365-day period in the brand's venerable history has been eventful. But, given the dynamic mix of ground-breaking and first-ever new BMW vehicles;  formation of new, key liaisons; and developments in manufacturing, BMW of Silver Spring, serving the greater Silver Spring area just can't help but take a few moments to share some of the more notable goings-on of the year. After all, what better way to close 2011 than by celebrating past accomplishments and igniting passion and drive for an even more exciting 2012.

Let's start with the introduction of new BMW models, shall we? There wasn't just one that wowed audiences across the globe. There were three! The new BMW 6 Series Coupe and Convertible gained a new variant, with BMW-exclusive, all-wheel drive: xDrive. Let us tell you, the dynamic mix of upper-crust luxury and improved all-weather maneuverability that the model delivers is nothing short of refined confidence.

BMW also introduced the BMW 1 Series M Coupe in 2011. We think the automaker sums it up perfectly when they say, "The BMW M. The most powerful letter in the world."1 And, last, but certainly not least, is the new BMW ActiveE, where high-performance meets EV technology.

Next, BMW of Silver Spring would like to take a moment to discuss BMW's manufacturing facilities. The German automaker invested heavily in expanding their plant in South Carolina. Now, we see it produce three BMW models - the X3, X5 and X6 - for not only the U.S., but many other markets worldwide. Additionally, they've helped to launch a new carbon-manufacturing facility in the state of Washington, which among other things will provide components for the imminent BMW i3 and BMW i8, in the state of Washington.

The carbon fiber manufacturing facility launched thanks to a joint venture BMW entered into with one of the most prominent carbon fiber manufacturers in the world, SLG Group. The aim of the collaboration is to cut production costs and integrate carbon fiber into even more models across the BMW lineup. And, you know what that means? Lighter, faster, more fuel-efficient cars with zero-compromise in safety!

Another key partnership BMW made in 2011, was with the U.S. Olympic Team. Inspired by the athleticism of the cars they make, the company formed the BMW Performance Team and was able to provide assistance to 11 Olympic and Paralymic hopefuls. With a keen eye on preserving the planet for future generations, BMW also launched the BMW Guggenheim Lab in NYC to help fuel an ongoing conversation on how to enhance urban life. The mobile Lab will travel to nine cities worldwide over the course of six years.

Remember, those are just a handful of the more newsworthy milestones, BMW hit in 2011. Can't wait to see what's in store for 2012? Stay tuned. BMW of Silver Spring, located at 3211 Automobile Blvd. Silver Spring, Maryland 20904 is dedicated to keeping you informed.
